About Us

The Original Italian Pizza, a beloved family-owned pizza restaurant in Bloomsburg, PA, has been a cornerstone of the community since 1997. In October 2022, Argentina E. La Fata, daughter of Joe & Edith La Fata, and her husband, Michael Newkirk, took the helm of this establishment, ensuring its legacy continues. 

Argentina has been a vital part of the restaurant since she was 14, balancing her responsibilities there while pursuing a successful career in nursing. Meanwhile, Michael, who hails from southern NJ, has dedicated his life to the hospitality industry since the age of 14, gaining experience in various kitchens as an Executive Chef, starting at just 22. He has worked in settings ranging from fine dining to high-volume restaurants in Philadelphia and Atlantic City. 

Together, they are committed to preserving the classic traditions of authentic Italian recipes while enhancing customer experience and modernizing the establishment for the 21st century. Their upgrades include a new phone system, smart devices, a point-of-sale system, a sophisticated delivery mapping system, and the development of their own App for food ordering, loyalty, and ease of use. They also offer custom catering menus for both in-house and offsite events, as well as tax exemption benefits for educational institutions, and have initiated a popular 'ambassador' program.

Extended History:

In 1987, Brooklyn native Edith, a Salvadorian refugee, crossed paths with Giuseppe, a Sicilian-born pizza maker, in a pizza shop. Their shared passion for food led them to Bloomsburg in the winter of 1997, where they purchased a small sub shop on the outskirts of downtown. Almost 26 years later, the Original Italian Pizza continues to foster an environment that celebrates hard work, dedication, and, most importantly, famiglia.
